Knitters

I was born in Puno, a different place from where I live now. I moved looking for new opportunities and a better-quality life; knitting is a very important part of my life.

Roxanna
(28 years)

I’m proud mother of seven children, two of them still young. Knitting makes me happy; I’m always knitting. Even though you see me serious most of the time, when I smile, I make it big.

Augustina
(53 years)

One day I want to become an expert knitter. This work is useful to me and my family because there is not much opportunity where we live.

Lucrecia
(49 years)

I learned to knit when I was 12 years old and I would like to continue learning. The knitting is useful because I can support my family when my husband does not have a job.

Cleofe
(47 years)

I was 15 years old when I learned from my sister how to knit. I learned using sticks and donkey hair. I feel happy when I dance and when I knit. My health is delicate so it is good for me to have flexible work that I can do at home.

Luz Marina
(57 years)

This is a flexible job, I like that. In another job I would have to be outside the home, and with knitting I can stay home and take care of my family. When I feel sad, I knit or cook and feel much better. A dream I have: “I’m saving money to build my house made of bricks, today my house is made of temporary material”.

Luz Esperanza
(31 years)

I always wanted to have my own business, and now I have it. It started with about 10 knitters today we are around 70. I’m a strong woman, thinking always about growing and becoming a better person. My two children are one of the best things I have in life.

Constantina
(48 years)

My mom was my first and best teacher, and at the age of 10 I learned how to knit. One big dream I have: “I would like to build my own house.” Besides raising my alpacas, the knitting is an important income for me and my family.

Rosalia
(41 years)

I’m a grandmother and now I want to continue working with the knitting group and to enjoy my family. My children and grandchildren make me so happy.
